Recommendations for Student Life

By Gene Malloy and Chad Serfass

Hello DeSales,

As the semester comes to a close, Student Life is beginning the selection process for our key student leadership positions on campus.  You should have already received emails requesting nominations for Resident Advisors and Character U Peer Mentors for the 2011-2012 academic year, and we thank those of you who nominated students for these positions.

Many of the students nominated, and likely several others, may be coming to you in the next two months to request that you act as a reference for these positions. The Resident Advisor and Peer Mentor recommendation processes are slightly different this year:

Peer Mentor Nominations: Students applying will provide you with a form to be filled out with your information and your relationship to the student that will be returned to Chad Serfass. Additionally, you are asked to write a letter recommending the student for the position and send as e-mail or hard copy to Chad.Serfass@desales.edu by January 31st.

Resident Advisor Nominations: Students applying will provide references with a link to complete an electronic letter of recommendation. If you complete one of these recommendations, you will receive a confirmation from the Residence Life Office.

We would like to extend a sincere thank you in advance for your participation and recommendation of students throughout this process.  It is in our best interest to help all students in their development to become the best leaders for our campus community.

If you have any questions about either of these processes, please don’t hesitate to contact either Gene Malloy or Chad Serfass.  Please see the contact information below.  Again, thank you for your time.  Have a blessed holiday season.

Residence Life: Gene Malloy, Gene.Malloy@desales.edu, Ext. 1548
Student Development and Peer Mentors: Chad Serfass, Chad.Serfass@desales.edu, Ext. 1599

Catholic Charities Foster Care Christmas Party 12/9

Thursday, December 9th, the Service and Social Justice Office will be hosting the annual Catholic Charities Foster Care Christmas Party from 5:30-8:30pm in McShea.  Please feel free to bring your families to come and meet Santa! Please email jaime.gerhart@desales.edu if you plan on attending and the age(s) of your child(ren).  If you cannot attend but would like to help in some way, please feel free to drop off your favorite holiday treat to the Service and Social Justice office.

Also, this year we are holding a Christmas gift drive that will go towards Operation Christmas Child.  Boxes have been placed in Dooling, Trexler, McShea and the DUC.  All toys should be small enough to fit in a shoe box, they would also like personal hygiene items and school supplies.  If you do not have time to go shopping, but would still like to help, you can send a check to Jaime Gerhart and write the check out to  “DeSales University.”

Thanks so much and Merry Christmas.

Karen Tempinski, Director of Public Safety and Police Operations and Chief of Police, has decided to accept an offer to pursue a career with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office. I thank Karen for her dedication and excellent service to DeSales University over the past nine years, specifically in leading the Department of Public Safety and Police Operations as Chief of Police during the last year.

Please congratulate Karen on her new opportunity and support Mike in his expanded leadership role with the University.
