Bioethics event to discuss out-of-hospital DNR, 10/31

Open forum at 7:30 p.m., on Monday, October 31, 2011 in the University Center on the DeSales Campus in Center Valley. This lecture is free and open to the public. ALL first year students receive a Character U point for this event!

The Baranzano Society on Bioethics will host an open forum discussing the issues involved with out-of-hospital DNR’s (do not resuscitate) and physician order or medical orders for life sustaining treatments (P.O.L.S.T. / M.O.L.S.T.) with guest speakers, Everitt Binns, Ph.D., executive director and CEO of the Eastern PA EMS Council; Cindy Umbrell, RN, MSN, CNS, CCRN, director of TNICU & CCCFP at Lehigh Valley Health Network ; and Robert Barraco, MD, MPH, FACS, FCCP,  chief of geriatric trauma and trauma outreach also at Lehigh Valley Health Network.

Dear future son or daughter…PACE program, 11/7

If given the chance, what would you say to your future son or daughter?
See what your fellow students said! Come to the PACE program on November 7 from 4-5pm in the Wood and Heritage rooms of the DUC.  We’ll look at the issue of peer pressure through an original movie, and discuss how peer pressure is seen in society today.

Freshmen will get a Character U PACE point! Hope to see you all there!

DeSales Community Thanksgiving Dinner, 11/22

Thanksgiving is an important part of our nation’s religious tradition and a significant holiday for our people. We have many reasons for gratitude. I hope that each of you spends time in the company of loved ones.

To get the Thanksgiving holiday off to a great start, I invite you to a DeSales Community Thanksgiving Dinner on Tuesday, November 22 in the University Center from 4:30 – 7:30 p.m.

The Student Life Office will provide music and entertainment for the dinner. The evening will conclude with a women’s basketball game at 6:00 p.m. and a men’s basketball game at 8:00 p.m. at DeSales University. Come out and support the mighty Bulldogs as they defeat the greyhounds of Moravian College.

If you are not on the meal plan, but wish to attend, simply print, complete, and return this form to the attention of Mr. Rich Jacoby through campus mail by Thursday, November 10.

Haunted House, 11/1

Come down to the Halloween Aftermath Haunted House on November 1, 7-11pm. Tickets are $3 with a DSU student ID, or $5 for the public. Meet at the lobby outside the conference rooms with your pre-purchased tickets, or purchase them there. Buy your tickets this week in the DUC, and get priority admission. Just show the number on the back of your ticket when you arrive and get bumped up to the earliest ride.

Children’s Halloween party, 10/27

Children’s Halloween Party is Thursday, Oct. 27 from 5:30-8:00pm

Volunteers are needed to help decorate for the annual Halloween Party Monday-Wednesday of this week.  Students can volunteer to decorate between 9am-5pm and 8pm-10pm.  Staff and faculty are welcome to bring their families to the Halloween Party – children are escorted to all of the residence halls for fun, games and of course, candy!
