Help select the new main theme for our future learning management system, Blackboard! You can be a part of the design process when you take our poll to select from the (4) potential main themes. Academic Oversight Committee Minutes from 12/12/12

Trexler Library – PPL Conference Room
MINUTES

PRESENT: Mr. John Bell, Dr. Rodger Berg, Dr. Robert  Blumenstein, Ms. Deborah Booros, Dr. Brian Kane and Fr. Peter Leonard.

Dr. Rodger Berg called the meeting to order at 3:00 p.m.

1. Approval of the Minutes – The minutes of October 24, 2012 were approved.  Mr. Bell will see that they’re distributed via the DeSales Daily.

2. Syllabi Submission and Faculty Contracts – The committee conducted a follow up conversation regarding the submission of syllabi as it related to the start of faculty contracts.  Feeling that most faculty members understand that chairs and division heads need time to review syllabi, the committee concluded that a submission deadline approximately two weeks prior to the start of the academic semester seemed reasonable.  The committee would recommend that the deadline be adjusted to avoid falling on a  holiday or weekend.

3. Spring Semester Faculty Colloquia –  The committee considered topics for the February 13, 2013 Faculty Colloquium.  Dr. Kane will invite Richard Noll and Mr. Bell will invite Susan Lehman to present on recent publications.  The committee has received and approved a request that the April Faculty Colloquium date be set aside for the University Rountable.

4. January 2013 Dies Academicus–Dr. Berg will forward announcements for the January 14, 2013 Dies Academicus.  Mr. Bell will post the announcements in the Desales Daily.  Dr. Berg will send the announcement and the link to the article to Ms. Jean Lynch for distribution to the faculty in January.

5. Missing  Syllabi – Dr. Blumenstein circulated a list of syllabi that are missing from the archives in Academic Affairs and asked that each division head forward any syllabi on the list.

The meeting adjourned at 3:40 p.m.  The next meeting will be on January 23, 2013 in the Trexler Library PPL  Conference Room at 3:00 p.m.

Your class roster is now final and is available real-time via MyDSU – WebAdvisor.

Only students listed on the official class roster will receive credit for your course and may attend class.

Please verify your roster and notify me of any discrepancies by Friday, February 1st. You may drop students for non-attendance at this time.  All students remaining on your official class list must be issued mid-term and final grades.

You will need your username and password to access MyDSU – WebAdvisor and to enter your grades.  If you do not remember your login information, please contact the helpdesk at extension 4357 (HELP) or at helpdesk@desales.edu.

United Way Drive Summary & Raffle Winners

When our United Way Campaign began Fr. O’Connor wrote, You responded positively and generously to Father’s request. We hit a 45% participation rate and raised $16,991.  The United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley thanks you for your support to this year’s campaign and so do the people in the Lehigh Valley who will benefit from your generosity.  On Thursday January 24, 2012, the feast day of our patron St. Francis deSales, Fr. O’Connor drew the following raffle prizewinners:

  • Phyllis Vogel  – One day off with pay in 2013                                                               
  • Linda Savitz  – One reserved parking space for 2013                                                   
  • Tahereh Hojjat  – Gift certificate for eight tickets to any of the spring 2013 Act 1 performances
