Salesian Quote of the Day

StFrancis“Let us not forget the maxims of the saints, who teach us to advance a little further each day on the road to perfection. This thought should encourage us not to be surprised or to feel miserable whenever we have something to correct. Each day we must begin again with renewed courage.”

– St. Francis de Sales

Academic Excellence Celebration Liturgy

As you know, the Academic Excellence Celebration Liturgy is the annual event at which the entire University community celebrates the academic achievement of our finest students. This is one of the three events which faculty are required to attend and to march in academic regalia. (The others are the Opening Mass of the Holy Spirit and May Commencement.) Each student who has achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.75 or higher is recognized and given an Academic Honors Certificate. This will be the tenth year of our Academic Excellence Address, which will be given by a student chosen by the division heads from the winners of the divisional academic excellence address competitions. We encourage the students to invite their families to join us in celebrating their academic excellence.

Order of Precedence 2014

The Academic Excellence Celebration Liturgy will be held in the Hurd and Commonwealth Rooms of the DeSales University Center (NOT in Connelly Chapel, as in previous years).  The faculty will robe in the Fireside Lounge of the DeSales University Center (close to the Bookstore) and the line-up will form at 1:15pm.  Priests will vest in the Auxiliary Conference Room in the DUC.  Attached is the list for the Academic Procession.

Our Academic Excellence Celebration is a marvelous opportunity to acknowledge the academic achievement of our finest students.

Academic Excellence Address Competition

On Wednesday, April 23rd, the Academic Oversight Committee, consisting of the four Division Heads; the Deans of Undergraduate Education, Graduate Education, and Lifelong Learning; and the Provost had the great pleasure of listening to the speeches that were presented by the following students who won the Academic Excellence Address Competitions in their divisions:

  • Chelsea Carver
  • Gina Galassi
  • Joseph McDaniel
  • John Pellosie
  • Alexandra Romanyshyn
  • Elizabeth Shemory
  • Jonathan Tabuzo

The Academic Oversight Committee had a difficult time choosing among these excellent presenters.  Our students are outstanding in their ability to write and deliver speeches.

The student chosen to give the Academic Excellence Address at the Academic Excellence Celebration on Sunday, April 27th at 1:30 p.m. in the DeSales University Center is John Pellosie.  He will be given a prize of $500.

The Academic Oversight Committee would like to thank all the students who participated in the Academic Excellence Address competition and to encourage all traditional day students to enter the competition next year.
