On behalf of Fr. Jim Greenfield, OSFS, who is attending the annual meeting of major superiors in Annecy, France, I share with you the sad news of the the death of our confrere, Fr. Harry Schlight, OSFS, who died in South Africa yesterday, four days before his 97th birthday. Jim was able to visit with Fr. Schlight in January during the canonical visitation and then invited him to preside or preach at the jubilee Mass at convocation, as it was his 70th anniversary of ordination to the priesthood. Fr. Schlight did not feel up to the travel.
We have spoken to his niece, Janet Parsley, in Cooperstown, PA, and she expressed the appreciation of her family upon learning of our prayers. She remembered her Uncle Harry as a “great guy, who was open to new ideas and never afraid to think boldly. If ever there was a follower of St. Francis de Sales, he was it!” she said.
Details of his funeral have not been finalized.
Confident in the hope of the resurrection, let us hold Fr. Schlight and his family in prayer.
