Creative Writing Contest for Weal and DiScoUrse

Do you like to write poetry, fiction or creative nonfiction? Would you like your writing featured in a campus publication?

DeSales’ literary magazine, Weal, is seeking submissions for this year’s issue. You can submit up to a total of 10 pages of material – any combination of one short story, one creative nonfiction essay and up to five poems.

First- and second-place entries will receive prizes. Additionally, the writers with the top six entries will receive membership in the “DiScoUrse” Creative Writing Honor Society starting next fall!

Send your submissions to Professor McKnight at Juilene.McKnight@desales.edu. Entries are due Friday, March 13.

Prizes and membership will be awarded at “DiScoUrse” Showcase Night on Wednesday, April 8 at 7PM in the Trexler and Hurd Rooms of the DUC.

Scholarship for PA Residents

The PASFAA Scholarship Application is now available on the PASFAA website.

Requirements:

  • Pennsylvania resident
  • Enrolled at least half-time
  • Have a minimum GPA of 2.5
  • Scholarships are non-renewable, but students are welcome to reapply
  • Preference will be given to applicants attending schools that are part of the PASFAA membership
  • Applications must be received by May 1, 2015.

Nursing Major Karen Holveck Receives LeCoMASE Scholarship

Nursing major Karen Holveck ’16 is the 2014-15 nursing scholarship recipient from The Lehigh County Medical Auxiliary Scholarship and Educational Fund (LeCoMASE), which has established a scholarship to benefit undergraduate nursing students at DeSales University.

The scholarship is distributed annually from an endowment established by LeCoMASE and awarded to a student who is a full-time undergraduate nursing major who is entering their senior year. The recipient must also be in good academic standing and a resident of Lehigh County.

This week in Lent – – All activities are open to the campus community

“CRS Rice Bowl” – The Rice Bowl is a small “bank” in which you place the extra money you saved by living and eating simply during Lent.

The money is donated to Catholic Relief Services which assists people in over 40 countries around the world with education, farming and education.

If you would like a rice bowl, please email Magdalene.riggins@desales.edu or pick one up during the Wellness Fair on Tuesday in the DUC.
