Mandatory Training for Faculty and Staff

Greetings!  In compliance with a number of federal and state regulations that impact the University, you will be asked to complete a series of mandatory training programs within the upcoming months.

Of immediate importance is the online child abuse training program through VIRTUSOnline, which supports DeSales’ “Sustaining a Caring Culture” Code of Ethical Behavior.  All employees of DeSales University are kindly being asked to complete this 30 minute online training course no later than August 31, 2015. Please download the instructions for registering and completing the training here: DeSales Registration Instructions (2)

Additionally, DeSales is implementing policy changes for compliance with the Title IX and the Violence Against Women Act amendments to the Clery Act.  The Clery Act is a federal law named in memory of student Jeanne Clery, who was assaulted and murdered in 1986 on the Lehigh University (PA) campus in her residence hall. A requirement under these new amendments is that colleges and universities must provide training to employees and students regarding sexual violence, dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking.  More information on this required training will be distributed to faculty and staff via email beginning in July 2015.

DSU is a caring community that places a premium on student safety and healthy relationships. These new policies and programs are intended to send a clear and unmistakable statement against sexual misconduct of any kind.

July Water Drinking Challenge

Are you thirsty?  By the time you feel thirsty, you are already dehydrated.  Since proper hydration is one of the keys to good health, join the Wellness Task force July Water Challenge.  This is a month long challenge to increase your daily consumption of water.  While opinions vary, most experts recommend a goal of eight 8 ounce glasses a day to improve nutrient absorption, flush out your system, regulate body temperature and keep your body working at its optimum levels

Ready to begin? Simply download the Water Challenge Tracking Sheet and begin crossing off your eight ounce cups as you complete them.  Remember only water counts and the goal is to increase your consumption up to eight cups of water per day.  Email your results to kathy.krause@desales.edu every Monday and qualify to be entered into the prize drawings.  Drinking 7-8 glasses daily will qualify you for a gold level entry, drinking 5-6 glasses daily will qualify you for a silver level entry and drinking 4 glasses daily will qualify you for a bronze level entry. Each week you participate gives you more chances to win. Prize drawings will be held first week in August.  Email any questions to Kathy Krause.  Good luck and cheers to all!

Salesian Quote of the Day

StFrancis“Let us not forget the maxims of the saints, who teach us to advance a little further each day on the road to perfection. This thought should encourage us not to be surprised or to feel miserable whenever we have something to correct. Each day we must begin again with renewed courage.”

– St. Francis de Sales
