Act 1 Opens Second Stage Season with “Godspell”

A colorful and thought-provoking musical about Jesus’ life in the Gospels

Act 1 DeSales University Theatre presents the first musical production of its 48th season: “Godspell.” This provocative classic musical will run October 12 to October 22, 2017 in the Schubert Theatre of the Labuda Center for the Performing Arts, Center Valley, Pa.

“Godspell,” based on the Gospel According to St. Matthew, presents the story of Jesus Christ and his disciples—with a musical twist. The story begins as a group of bickering philosophers from all ages descend into chaos as they disagree with one another. The raucous band then transforms into disciples as John the Baptist foretells the coming of Jesus Christ, who is introduced and baptized by John, beginning his leadership over the cast. As the musical progresses, the disciples are taught about morality through Jesus’ parables. However, the lively and heart-warming lessons don’t last forever. Just as in the gospels, Jesus is eventually betrayed by Judas and crucified. His followers are tested, but all is not lost, for the resurrection is promised. Featuring the smash hits “Day by Day,” Turn Back, O Man,” and All Good Gifts,” “Godspell” is a wondrous and inspiring retelling of the life of Jesus, spanning a range of emotions and musical stylings. Disability Awareness Month – Learning Disabilities

What is a learning disability?

According to the National Joint Commission on Learning Disabilities, learning disability (LD) is a general term that refers to a heterogeneous group of disorders manifested by significant difficulties in the acquisition and use of listening, speaking, reading, writing, reasoning, or mathematical abilities. Problems in self-regulatory behaviors, social perception, and social interaction may exist with learning disabilities but do not by themselves constitute a learning disability.
