Today: Philosophy and Theology Department’s Lecture Series

The Philosophy and Theology Department invites you to attend the first lecture in its annual Lecture Series, Tuesday, October 24 at 4 p.m. in the Heritage Room of the DeSales University Center. Dr. Rodney Howsare will offer a paper entitled “Flannery O’Connor and the City.” He describes his lecture as follows:

“Cities tend to signify the northernization or secularization of the South in the work of Flannery O’Connor. She described the South as ‘Christ-haunted,’ and the rest of America as on the path to secularistic nihilism. This lecture will discuss the role of the city in O’Connor’s fiction, primarily with regard to her two novels: Wise Blood and The Violent Bear it Away.

Please join us for this inaugural lecture of the 2017-2018 academic year. Refreshments provided.
