Dress Down Day, 2/9

The DeSales University Women’s Basketball Team is getting ready to do their part to fight cancer. You too can be part of the team by joining Coach Richter and his players by participating in the “DRESS DOWN DAY,” to be held on FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 9.

Simply make a $5 donation and you can wear your favorite jeans and sweatshirt to work.

Tomorrow: Kamran Afshar Data Analytics Center to Announce January 2018 Update of the LV Business Sentiment Index

In partnership with DeSales University, Dr. Kamran Afshar, director of the newly formed Kamran Afshar Data Analytics Center at DeSales University (KADAC), will release the January 2018 update of the Lehigh Valley Business Sentiment Index (BSI) on Thursday, February 1, at 10:00 a.m. in the Trexler Room of the DeSales University Center. Mr. Tony Iannelli, president of the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce, who was instrumental in starting the BSI, will introduce Dr. Afshar. Along with his students, Dr. Afshar will analyze and comment on the BSI, which is based on quarterly data collected since 1997 and reflects Lehigh Valley businesses’ survey responses around key economic and political events. Their review and analysis of the results of the January survey will disclose local businesses’ hiring, purchasing patterns, and revenues over the last 6 months, as well as their projected expenditures, hiring plans, and revenues in the next 6 months. In addition, analysis and commentary will include Lehigh Valley business sentiment around recent changes in corporate and individual tax laws. All are welcome to attend.

Free Worksite Wellness Biometric Screenings for DSU Employees, 2/22 (Online Sign up)

As part of the Annual Wellness Fair on Thursday, 2/22, Highmark will be onsite to conduct biometric screenings between 7:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. This will be a comprehensive fingerstick screening which will include total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, Triglycerides, glucose, and blood pressure. A minimum 9-hour fasting is required for accurate results. Participants with known diabetes/hypoglycemia should contact their physician before fasting. Take any morning medications as prescribed by your doctor.

All DSU employees are eligible to participate whether or not enrolled in HMBS medical coverage. Please register using the link below:

Have a presentation you want to give? Tired of the same old PowerPoint presentations? Not sure where to start? Ever wonder about adding in some multi-media? Then this Lunch and Learn is for you! Kevin McNamara, one of our Technology Ambassadors, will cover how to “storyboard” your presentation, how to decide what platform is best for the information you are presenting, tips on how to maximize visual impact, how to organize your presentation properly, and how to incorporate other elements to make your presentation more interactive and engaging. Today’s employers are looking for people who have great communication skills. What better way to show them than to deliver a well-crafted presentation as your pitch?

Introducing the Lehigh Valley Engaged Humanities Consortium (LVEHC)

Lehigh Valley Engaged Humanities Consortium (LVEHC) is a Mellon funded consortium of LVAIC institutions as well as local cultural institutions.

“It fosters exploration of personal, historical, and community narratives that have emerged in the past half-century in the [Lehigh Valley] region using methods of the humanities and arts.”

The group provides numerous grant opportunities in the following categories:

  • Course Development – $1500
  • Collaborations with artists & writers – $500, $1500, or $5000
  • Public events – $2500
  • Programming at cultural institutions (or collaborating with a cultural institution) – $500, $5000
