Recently reported CPU flaws Meltdown and Spectre

You may be seeing news reports of AMD/Intel computer processor flaws which have serious security concerns, called Meltdown and Spectre. These flaws allow one program on a computer to steal information from another program on that computer. Computers in this sense include everything from servers, to PCs, tablets and phones. A program that exploits these flaws can run in your browser, on a tablet, phone, and even on cloud provider computers. So, what should you do?

  • Keep your computers, tablets, and phones updated
  • Update your web browser(s)
  • Run anti-malware software, like https://www.avast.com/
  • Be careful where you store sensitive information, like passwords and banking information
