Be Aware: Tech Support Fraud

DeSales Community –

The FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) has released an alert on tech support fraud. Tech support fraud involves criminals claiming to provide technical support to fix problems that don’t exist. Their methods include placing calls, sending pop-ups, engaging misleading lock screens, and sending emails to entice users to accept fraudulent tech support services.

Do not give control of computers or mobile devices to any stranger offering to fix problems.

NCCIC/US-CERT encourages users and administrators to refer to the IC3 Alert and the NCCIC Tip on Avoiding Social Engineering and Phishing Attacks for more information. If you believe you are a victim of a tech support scam, file a complaint with the IC3 at www.ic3.gov.

In conjunction with the ongoing, campus-wide celebrations in honor of the inauguration of Fr. Greenfield, the Humanities Department will host its third biennial Favorite Poem Poetry Reading April 9 at 7 p.m. in the Trexler Room of the DUC. Individual members of the administration, faculty, and staff will come together to read a favorite poem to the gathered audience and then speak for several minutes on why the particular poem had an impact on their life. We are still filling out our roster of speakers, so administrators, faculty, and staff from all sections of the campus community interested in taking part in the event are urged to contact Dr. Steve Myers at stephen.myers@desales.edu.
