Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship Student Seminar

Six DeSales students, Corey Screven (’20 Psychology), Samantha Mullin (’20 Biology), Elizabeth Godfrey (’20 Medical Studies), Graziella Greco (’20 Biology), Rebecca Cervantes (‘19 Biology), and Veronika Tews (’20 Biology), were selected to participate in the inaugural Natural Science Department Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) program.

Alongside the six students were three biology faculty members, Drs. Joshua Slee, Joseph Leese, and Austen Barnett, who each volunteered part of their summer to mentor 2 students in their research labs.

The 8-week program was a tremendous success so please come and listen to each group present their findings from their summer research on Friday, October 19 @ 3:00 in the Hurd Science Center Auditorium.

All are welcome to attend.

Salesian Quote of the Day

“Must you continue to be your own cross? No matter which way God leads you, you change everything into bitterness by constantly brooding over everything. For the love of God, replace all this self-scrutiny with a pure and simple glance at God’s goodness.” ~ St. Jane Francis de Chantal

Tonight: 34th Annual Poetry Festival

A reading by Philadelphia poet Elaine Terranova on Thursday night, October 18, at 7 PM in the Commonwealth Room of the DUC will kick off our 34th Annual Poetry Festival.

Elaine Terranova, long a Poetry Festival workshop leader, has won fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, and the Pew Center for Arts & Heritage, among other noteworthy awards that also include a Pushcart Prize. Author of six previous full-length poetry collections as well as a chapbook, she has also produced a translation of Euripides’s play Iphigenia at Aulis. She has published in many of the very best literary journals in the country, including The New Yorker, American Poetry Review, Prairie Schooner, Virginia Quarterly Review, and Cincinnati Review.

The Festival this year will also be a launch platform for Elaine’s new collection, Perdido, now on sale, as they say, at the University Bookstore.

The reading is free and open to the public.
