Suspicious Emails Require Fast Action

A big thank you to Lina Barbieri in the Advancement Office. On Tuesday October 30, a bogus email was sent to look as though it came from Father Greenfield. Within minutes of receiving the email, Lina notified IT that she thought there was something “suspicious” about the message and asked if IT could verify that it was a legitimate email sent from Father Greenfield. IT was able to quickly determine that the message was indeed malicious in nature. This vigilance helped IT to block a potentially dangerous web site that was contained in the message. This also gave IT the opportunity to quickly notify other recipients that received the email.

Fast actions can often help thwart potential infection of our systems. The IT department has sent Lina a small gift as a token of our appreciation for the quick actions.
