Schedule of Events for the Feast of St. Francis de Sales

This year, during the Feast of St. Francis de Sales, there will be no shortage of activities in which to participate! Please complete this RSVP form by January 18, to aid in the planning of the events. This will especially be helpful in terms of food preparation and space allocation.

At events marked with an asterisk (*), the first 25 or 50 students to arrive will win a Feast Day T-Shirt.

Dining services will feature French-styled offerings to mark the popular cuisine of St. Francis de Sales’ homeland, Annecy, France.

The event schedule is as follows:

Monday, January 21: Salesian Service in Honor of Martin Luther King, Jr.

MLK Service Workshop with a free lunch, DUC

Movie and Conversation: Selma, Dorothy Day Student Union
Snacks provided.

Tuesday, January 22: Feast Day Kickoff

Salesian Bingo, Dorothy Day Student Union
Oblate priests and brothers will call your winning numbers.

Wednesday, January 23: Feast Day Eve

* President’s State of the University Address, DUC, Commonwealth Room
Fr. Jim Greenfield, OSFS, will address the University community on important matters for 2019 and beyond.

Evening Prayer at Wills Hall Chapel
Vespers with reflection by Associate Professor Amy Scott, Division of Business; presider, Maggie Riggins, director of campus ministry.

Reception at Wills Hall
Enjoy refreshments at the Oblates’ home after prayer.

* Men’s Basketball Game, Billera Hall
Come see the Bulldogs take on Eastern University.

Francis and Frozen, Dorothy Day Student Union
The Office of Campus Ministry hosts an evening of prayer and reflection through the lens of the popular film, Frozen.

Watch the 22nd nationally-ranked Bulldogs play Eastern University.

Thursday, January 24: Feast of St. Francis de Sales

* Painting with Francis and Jane, Dorothy Day Student Union
Make your own art with a favorite Salesian quote.

Sign Language Workshop, TBD
As St. Francis de Sales is the patron of the deaf, come and learn a few important words and prayers using English Sign Language (ESL).

University Mass, DUC, Commonwealth Room
Pray with the University community at the Eucharist.

Reception, DUC, White Pavillion
Following mass, faculty and staff enjoy refreshments in the DUC.
Students dine on some French cuisine offerings in the Dining Center.

* Lecture and Exhibit: Salesian Artist Anne Goetze, DUC, Commonwealth Room
Anne Goetze will discuss her travels to Annecy, France, the home of St. Francis de Sales, and how the beauty of his land inspired her.  Special featured guests are residents of Annecy Hall. Lecture sponsored by Salesian Center for Faith and Culture.

Laugh and learn some fun and quirky facts about Francis, Jane, and the Oblates who share their spirit here at DSU.

We hope you are able to participate in a number of these events and activities, especially the University Mass on January 24 and the President’s State of the University Address on January 23.  All are welcome and urged to attend, as each of us contributes greatly to who we are called to be as a community of faith and learning.
