Snow Days & Priority Snow Paths: What You Need to Know

Here’s some important information about the Center Valley campus this upcoming winter:

Priority Snow Paths

To assist campus pedestrians during snow events, a network of Priority Snow Paths has been established. The Priority Snow Paths will be the first walks cleared during a snow event and every attempt will be made to keep those paths open while the snow is falling. Building entrances will be cleared on a prioritized basis with the highest priority going to entrances that lead to Priority Snow Paths.

Priority Snow Paths should be used both when the University is conducting normal operations and is closed due to weather conditions. Bright green signs indicating Priority Snow Paths are posted during the winter months to aid pedestrian’s identification of the Priority Snow Paths.

The Priority Snow Paths will allow a person to get from any location on North Campus (Residence Halls) to any other location on South Campus (Academic and Dining). During a snow event, the University encourages the use of Priority Snow Paths and discourages the use of other, uncleared paths. The Priority Snow Paths on South Campus are designed to ease movement between academic buildings, dining facilities, and parking lots.

ADA access was a major factor in determining the Priority Snow Paths. The University endeavors to provide equal mobility access. Of necessity, stairs and routes with stairs have a lower priority than Priority Snow Paths.

All academic, administrative, athletic, and residence building entrances and fire lanes, will be cleared in order to facilitate emergency vehicle and first responder access to the buildings.

Parking lots which service faculty, staff, commuting students, and visitors receive priority attention (marked with a red “P” on the map). Residence Hall lots have a lower priority. Residents are encouraged to leave their cars in their assigned dormitory parking lot during snow events unless requested by DeSales University Police to do otherwise.

Wellness Fair Registration

Wellness is an important responsibility for all of us. Research shows that five practical lifestyle habits can have a significant impact on our health: not smoking, exercising regularly, maintaining a healthy weight, eating a healthful diet and getting preventive care.

DeSales cares about your health, your wellness, and like you, is concerned with the cost of health care today. Our worksite wellness program plays an important role in helping us all get on the path to better health, as well as offers an opportunity to gain greater control over health care costs.

We hope you share our enthusiasm for our wellness initiatives and participate in the DeSales Third Annual Wellness Fair on Thursday, September 29, 2016, in the DeSales University Center. Events are scheduled from 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM.

Please register at Please check each session you plan to attend including lunch.  All responses are due by Thursday, September 22.

Station Avenue closure for paving scheduled for Monday, September 19

The Township Road Department will be paving Station Avenue, between Landis Mill Road and Walnut Lane. Work is tentatively scheduled to start on Monday, September 19, between the hours of 7:00 AM and 3:00 PM, and will continue through Tuesday, September 20. This schedule is subject to change without notice, depending on the weather. Preparatory work has already begun this week.

The nature of the project includes an overlay of the entire road surface. The road will remain open during the preparatory work – which is already underway – and will utilize complete daily closures during re-paving. Traffic will be detoured using Landis Mill Road, Taylor Drive, Flint Hill Road, and Walnut Lane.

During the work closures, access to the driveways on Station Avenue alongside the new DeSales Athletic fields will be restricted.

Thank you for your cooperation, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
