Explosions will rock the Hurd auditorium! 10/26

11th Annual Chemistry Annual Chemistry Demonstrations Program on October 26 at 7:00 p.m. in the Hurd Auditorium, located in the Hurd Science Center. (Photo is from 2009 program)

The Natural Science Department Chemistry faculty & students will present the 11th Annual Chemistry Demonstrations Program on October 26, 2011 from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. The program will be held in the Hurd Science Center Auditorium. The program has received rave reviews and seats are first come first served. This event is open to the DeSales community and the general public free of charge.

The colorful and explosive presentations are designed to be visually interesting and exciting, as well as illustrative of important but easily understood chemical concepts. Our faculty and students take great pride in this event and are always excited to see a full house! Parents, please feel free to bring your children. Many faculty members have done that at our past presentations and it was enjoyed by all.

We’re looking forward to seeing you at our public presentation.

Faculty, would you like some free books?

Over the summer, our library cleaned out about 550 books and sent them to Chuck Gloman, chair of the TV/Film Department.  The books were organized, and now Chuck would like to offer the books free to any faculty in the University who might want them.

Evacuation drill today, 10/20

National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards for a safe campus require the testing of our ability to evacuate University buildings in a timely fashion. Our Occupational Safety & Health Coordinator (OSHO), Jeff LaGamba, has worked hard to prepare selected staff to serve as Captains and Coordinators to facilitate the safe evacuation of Dooling Hall.

The exercise will occur between 9:05 and 9:10 today, Thursday, October 20, 2011.

Coordinators and Captains will help organize the evacuation; they will help you reach the correct evacuation locations. Ordinarily, you would just leave everything in the room and evacuate, however, we have timed this drill to be the least disruptive as possible for classroom instruction. So please plan on not returning to the classroom; take everything with you.

How will the drill be announced?

•    The fire alarm will sound between 9:05 and 9:10 a.m.
•    Big Voice will sound an Evacuate Dooling Hall message
•    E2Campus will notify everyone that this is an exercise only

If you have any questions, please contact Jeff LaGamba at Ext. 1717.
