Skin Cancer Awareness Presentation, 5/24

Do you know what skin cancer looks like?

1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer during their lifetime.

The DeSales University Wellness Task Force is sponsoring a Skin Cancer Awareness event during the DeSales University Employee Appreciation Day BBQ on Wednesday, May 24, 2017.  Dr. Kelly Quinn of Advanced Dermatology Associates will be presenting facts about the types of skin cancer and prevention.  This informative 30-minute presentation is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. in the Hurd Room, DeSales University Center.  Please email Colleen.Petrick@desales.edu  or call ext. 1466 to reserve your space.

It’s a Girl!

Please join the Natural Science Department in congratulating Dr. Julie Himmelberger and her husband, Dan, on the birth of their second daughter. Isabel Marie was born on May 17 at 4:49 a.m. – 7 lbs., 10 oz., 19.5 inches. Big sister Evelyn Rose, 3, is very excited to welcome her sister into the world. Mom and baby are doing well.

Collaborative Arts Exhibit and Performance

Mark Your Calendar! “Arts/graft: American Community in the Understory,” a wide-ranging collaborative arts project featuring the work of painters, photographers, printmakers, textile artists, sculptors, illustrators, storytellers, poets, fiction writers, and other craftspersons, will open in the Commonwealth Room of the DUC Monday, August 28, and will be on display there throughout that week, culminating in a performance night of music, stories, and readings Thursday, August 31 in the DUC at 7 p.m. Exhibited art will thereafter be moved and remain on display through fall semester in Trexler Library.

Contributing artists include, among DSU faculty, John Bell, Deb Burrows, Liz Elliot, Katherine Grasso, Fran Mayville, Juilene Osborne-McKnight, Steve Myers, and Dennis Varley, as well as current DSU students, DSU alumni, former DSU faculty, parents of DSU faculty, and artists from the Lehigh Valley to upstate New York and from Charleston to Nashville to Santa Fe to San Francisco. The exhibit and the performance night will be free and open to the campus community and general public.
