It’s the best kept secret on campus!

In February watch as a family must face their fears of the future in Chekhov’s, The Cherry Orchard. And we end our season with Pippin, a poignant musical of a young man’s journey to be extraordinary.

Faculty and Staff Helping Hands at Orientation, 8/19

Attention all Faculty and Staff!

Orientation will be here soon and one of the best things about this event is the unity that the entire DeSales community shows to the new freshman class. The positive feedback from the new students and their families about the welcoming team is tremendous.

Once again this year the Orientation team would like to invite all DeSales University faculty and staff to help with the move in process on Sunday, August 19 from 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Those who are unable to carry objects or have limited mobility, we will have other jobs such as handing out water or directing families during move in. There is a job for everyone who wants to be involved! You will get an official Orientation shirt, breakfast, and lunch for helping.

Please fill out this form if you would like to help. Those who are interested should let us know by Friday, July 6 to guarantee a requested shirt size. After July 6, we will accept forms until August 10, but shirt sizes will be limited.

Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival’s 27th Season Launches with Tony Award-Winning Musical Ragtime

Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival proudly opens its 27th season with the Broadway musical Ragtime, on the Main Stage at the Labuda Center for the Performing Arts on the campus of DeSales University.

Based on E.L. Doctorow’s 1975 novel, and written by  the composer/lyricist team of Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens, and Tony Award-winning playwright Terrence McNally, this acclaimed musical features show-stopping songs such as “Wheels of a Dream,” “Till We Reach That Day,” “Back to Before,” and “Make Them Hear You.” Called by Time Magazine “A triumph for the stage,” “Intoxicating” by the Associated Press, and “Explosive and thrilling!” by Bloomberg News, Ragtime was nominated for 13 Tony Awards and won for best score, book, and orchestrations.

Set in the volatile melting pot of turn-of-the-century New York, three distinctly American tales are woven together — that of a stifled but determined upper-class homemaker (Brandi Burkhardt as Mother), an indomitable Jewish immigrant (Samuel Druhora as Tateh) and a daring young Harlem musician (Nkrumah Gatling as Coalhouse Walker, Jr.)—Each are united by their courage and their pursuit of the American dream, against extraordinary odds. Ladders, used properly, can be a safe and convenient tool. When used improperly, however, they can lead to a serious injury or result in a fatality.

Climbing Position

  • Climb a ladder by holding on to the rails and not the steps.
  • Climb facing the ladder with your body centered between the rails.
  • Use three points of contact, with at least three extremities attached to the ladder at all times.
  • Do not twist your body while climbing.

Lifting Items

  • Do not climb with hands full of gear.
  • Put any materials you need to take up a ladder into a tool bag/belt that you wear on your person.
  • Use hand lines, hoists, or manlifts to lift and lower heavy objects.
