Chief Bedics to step down as DeSales’ Chief of Police

Two years ago we welcomed Stu Bedics and his family into the University community. Based on his experience as Bethlehem’s Police Commissioner he has brought many great ideas to campus. The DeSales University Police Department is more professional, more capable and more ready than it has ever been. He has helped the University’s public safety effort in a variety of ways to include beginning DSUPD’s accreditation process with the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association. However, Stu has accepted a position at Lehigh University and will begin there on April 1 as their police department’s Assistant Chief. All of us are sorry to see him go but we wish him the best in this new and exciting opportunity as he returns to his beloved Bethlehem.

Meanwhile, SGT Steve Marshall assumes the position of Interim-Chief this Friday, March 29. Chief Marshall has served on the Moravian College, Emmaus Borough and the Bethlehem City Police Departments, as well as the Bethlehem Parking Authority. He has had specialized assignments in undercover vice, narcotics K-9, motorcycle, community policing, and the Lehigh/Northampton Auto Theft & Insurance Fraud Task Force.

Like all DSUPD officers, Chief Marshall is both Act 120 and 235 trained. But he holds a number of certifications as well: Vehicle Search & Seizure, Party Dispersal, VASCAR, Traffic Accident Investigation, various counter drug and gang certifications, arson and fire, mental illness response, ethnic intimidation, and digital forensics among others.

Please congratulate (Interim) Chief Marshall at steven.marshall@deslaes.edu. Please congratulate Chief Bedics at sjb313@lehigh.edu.

P3, in conjunction with Human Resources, will determine a search protocol for Chief in the weeks ahead.
