2013 Service Excellence Winners

One of the long-standing traditions of our university is to publicly acknowledge the staff that have contributed to our success.  Each spring we hold the Service Excellence Dinner at which staff members who are celebrating a certain length of service to DeSales University are recognized.  It is also an opportunity for us to thank them for sharing their gifts with our community.  In addition, we invite newly hired employees and their guests to attend the dinner in an effort to welcome them to DeSales.  This year’s dinner will be held on Thursday, April 4.

One of the highlights of the evening is the presentation of two awards:  Pauline “Polly” Kemmerer – the Support Staff Employee of the Year and Joanne Kelly – the Professional Staff Employee of the Year.  I ask that you extend congratulations to Polly and Joanne for earning these distinctions and thank them for the valuable contributions they have made to the university over the years.

— Bernard F. O’Connor, OSFS, President

3 Free Personal Training Sessions with Sport & Exercise Science Students

The Sport & Exercise Science students enrolled in ‘Fitness Leadership’ will be offering three days of personal training to faculty, staff, and students.  Because this is part of a class activity, the only time the training is offered will be 11:15 a.m. till 12:00 noon on Tuesday and Thursday March 21, 26, and 28 in Billera.

There are 12 spots available on each day, and we recommend you sign up for as many days as possible to get maximum benefits.  Reserve your spot ASAP.

The trainers will tailor the exercise plan to meet your needs and goals. Personal trainers can motivate and push you to work harder or they can help you learn how to use the equipment in the gym on your own.

For Safety Reasons: all participants must be healthy enough for unrestricted exercise (we have a simple questionnaire to determine your eligibility).

To reserve your spot, or get more information contact Rebecca.kudrna@desales.edu

Character U Keynote: Terry Caffey

Join us Wednesday, March 13 at 3:00 p.m. in the Commonwealth Room in the DUC for our second Character U keynote of the semester, Terry Caffey.  On March 1, 2008 at around three a.m., his life changed forever.  His sixteen-year-old daughter’s boyfriend and his accomplice came in and shot him and his wife Penny as they slept, killing Penny and leaving him fighting to stay alive. They then went upstairs and killed his sons: thirteen-year-old Matthew and eight-year-old Tyler.  Terry has since forgiven his daughter for planning the murders.  Join us to hear Terry’s heartbreaking and inspiring story.
